Community Engagement
& Wellbeing
This pillar of our work focuses on community pride and identity-affirmation, bridging the opportunity gap for racial minorities, and fostering radical self-care and community connection.
Mentorship after school programme
After a successful pilot scheme, we launched Young, Leading and Black to support young people aged 12-18 in Gloucestershire. Through mentoring, we prepare young people with the skills they need to thrive while helping older teenagers to find their dream career. By fostering a supportive community, we help in creating equitable futures for young black people.
Summer School Programme
We run a dedicated 10-day summer school program for young people. The program features engaging activities centered around three core pillars: Culture, Community, and Confidence, providing a safe and supportive space for ethnically and culturally diverse youth to thrive. The programme is free to attend and draws young people from across the region—including Stroud, Gloucester, and Cheltenham. The daily schedule is typically a mix of sports, creative arts, and teamwork-based workshops designed to reinforce identity and help youth feel valued.
Mothers of Colour & Swimmers of Colour
The Mothers of Colour project provides a vital safe space for women of African, Afro-Caribbean, and ethnically diverse backgrounds Support group for mums from different ethnicities. Built to combat isolation and cultural mismatch, it provides a community where cultural nuances in motherhood and upbringing are understood and offers a support group for mums from different ethnicities. The free sessions span newborn care, mental wellness, maternal health, and more.

Lives of Colour collaborated with Active Gloucestershire and Sport England to keep women on the movethrough learning to swim. Because 95% of black British adults can’t swim, according to Sport England, we wanted to help tackle this in our local community.
